Weekly Practice
stay on the social apps? reading romance, walking, crying, blowing my nose...
In the spirit of offering, the practice of giving, my whole-hearted belief that every wish, prayer and action dictates the evolution of the world (what you do matters), and documenting what one does in a time of resistance/decolonization/liberation (which is kind of the whole point of this blog??) - here is a short list of some things I did this week:
Posted way too much on my Instagram stories. I feel kind of sick about it. But all things I felt should be KNOWN. And what else is the point of social media? Hoping to go back to not being on broligarchy apps…. just deleted TikTok now too with its fuckery. Feels hard to break up with IG right now when staying informed feels important. But it is fucking with me, dysregulating and taking me out of my body which is absolute opposite of my needs right now. I’m all or nothing… anything in the gray is a shitshow for me (most of my blog posts, so that’s fun). To delete or not delete, that is the question.
Went to the release party for this book: Leo Rising by Archie Bongiovanni, all by myself at night which was a little scary (because of ICE). But the book intrigued me as it’s set in Alaska where I lived for a few years and ngl the title caught my eye because I’m a Leo Rising although the book has nothing to do with astrology as far as I know. I was desperate to get out to do something and what’s better than supporting a queer artist and author, for a book about queerness, at an independent bookstore, right across the street from where ICE is staging in the Target parking lot (fuck them both). Plus, I also got this cool art. ;)
I cried a lot. I cried watching Queer Eye. I cried as I thought about the 2 tots abducted and trying to imagine what they’re going through. I cried the day Alex Pretti was executed in the streets of my city (today, January 24, 2026). I cried as I walked myself through sensitization - masked men are hunting people with military weapons, pointing them and using them on unarmed civilians without anyone putting a stop to it but the people of this city. Guns. Openly. On the street. Pointed and used. At peaceful and unarmed civilians.
I grappled with my rage toward white folks and anyone who is organizing like it’s just a hobby and not a fulltime job. For some of us, it’s not a hobby. For some of us, we’ve carried the truth and reality of America on our skin or in our blood since day one. I have felt some guilt for not feeling more enraged - not having an explosion of energy, but remembered that I carry it with me, always. I’ve made the conscious choice to channel it into things every day that do something to build a better world, without burning myself out all the fucking time.
I grieved that some people in my life have no clue what’s going on here and/or have yet to check in to see how I’m doing.
I walked on the treadmill most days, since it’s fucking cold outside and also the anxious tension I feel in my body walking outside by myself right now is not worth it. The upside is I got to read while walking and finished my book, “The Deep End” by Ali Hazelwood. It’s only taken me three times as long to read anything lately, but that’s A-OK. Walking and strength workouts save my mind and my body.
I got congested/sinus crap. Cold dry drafty old house, getting pulled out of body more often, hormonal stuff…. the body said hold up. So, I’ve been trying to sleep harder, drink more tea and water, do a little extra work on lymph drainage with massage too. Keep it moving. Tend to the body.
I’ve got to stay in touch with these things - the real, practical things that I’m doing and experiencing and feeling. The things that keep me grounded and focused. The tracking of what’s happening during this time. The confession that I’m hurting (often in unexpected ways that may not be the same as those around me) and that’s okay. Acknowledging the discomfort sometimes in being human. And the foundational importance of joy, pleasure, love, grieving, and care in all of this work toward a new paradigm.
This week I’m wishing everyone bravery and courage to have a spine - be bold in creating what you want for the future. Start making it happen right now.
And don’t forget to travel in packs.
Full moon next Sunday.
